Bev do you have both leagues set the same 1 point per 25 yards? Is there any chance this will be a little lower in the NFL league or do we need to vote on this matter? Also how does everyone feel about having 1 reserve spot this will not affect the draft in any way.

You mean like a reserve spot if someone gets hurt during the season? So you could pick up a ww guy and put your injured guy on reserve? Am I getting that right?

Sorry, this didn't come up in the top 5 I've participated in, so missed it. Stupis me. Yes, yes, yes. I was planning, in fact, to put it up to a vote to change it to 20 yds per point for IOP on returns. And I've asked several times in countless threads what the difference is between an IR spot and an extra bench, and never once got an answer. Can anyone explain? ? I can tell you for 'almost' sure, there will be an extra bench at Yahoo due to the 2 IDPs. Some say a small bench encourages more active participation, but I'm not convinced. Not convinced that that forced participation is neither necessary or for a good reason, or even effective as such. P.S. Now gotta figure out how to do a poll.

The extra bench means 1 more pick in the draft where as the reserve spot is for an injured player does not count for a extra draft pick. To be used for a player who may be out a few weeks so that you don't have to dump him and then be afraid you may not get him back. Hope this helps you out.

I like the idea, and you did good Jeffery on explaining the difference. So the reserve spot can only be used for an injured player. Not just to store someone. Right. If that is the case I like it.

So if I'm understanding it, this IR spot is simply not accounted for whatsoever in the draft?? Seems a tad silly, but I'll do it. lol I mean even without the spot, you could always throw a hurt guy in there if bench. Or maybe I'm just stupid. That's more likely the case.

Yes you are correct the IR spot is not accounted for whatsoever in the draft. With the IR spot at least you would not have to tie up a spot on your bench for a injured player.

well, the IR spot is more for keeper leagues, as you do not want to drop a stud because he is injured. i think the IR is only for players on the IR, so it would serve no purpose in this league if i am right.

I think you are doing what I did earlier. Confussing IR with DL. A player can go on IR and return in a few weeks. The DL would be they don't come back this year.

OK OK OK Lets discuss this in more detail. I also am confused about the whole IR thingy-mi-jig.
Lets look at a couple of scenarios and discuss.
1) Sidney Rice was out for the first 10 weeks of last season. Most people acquired him in the draft last year and either kept hold of him until fit (hence taking up a valuable bench spot), or dropped him and attempted to get him back later when fit. Would Rice have been a good example of a player who could have been plonked on IR till healthy?
2) Frank Gore was fit then got hurt about week 11 or 12 I believe. He is a stud so therefore would have been ideal to place on IR if a keeper league cos potentially worth keepeing for following season. If not keeper then no point being on IR cos he was out for season.
3) Austin Collie was playing AWESOME then got knocked out cold. Was out for a few weeks, then returned then was out again, then was fit again then out for good. Could he have gone on IR, then off again, then on then off then on again. Understand?
Hope these examples make sense. Lets discuss.
Also does our roster show an IR slot and the player we have selected for it. How do you select this guy? Is it part of the usual draft or is it something that happens after the draft or what?
I mean lets say for example, another example LOL!, that Gore isnt quite fit enough to start the season and is placed on IR for the 49ers with the intention of returning week 4....if he aint drafted then ALL of us are gonna want to put him on our IR slot so how is it decided who gets Gore? Surely it cant be done in order of draft picks cos otherwise the guy who picks 1st gets all the top options. It must be part of the draft surely.
C'mon lets discuss

The way I understand it, it's an extra 'bench' spot that does not get drafted to. It's empty after the draft. Then when one guy on your roster gets injured, you stick him in IR, and add someone. But theoretically, seems you can stick someone that is not injured in there after the draft, and pick up a FA or WW. Or is there some unwritten law that the guy you stick in IR is actually on NFL IR? I have no idea.

Guess that explains it better. And it's nice that it's not only IR, but PUP & SUS(pended), etc. So the way I'm understanding it is that you never draft to that spot. The only think I don't get is can you pick up a guy already on IR and place him in that spot post-draft? I'm thinking not. I believe you would have to draft that IR player as bench, and then stick him in the IR slot and get someone else off FA or WW.
I could easily see a startegy where you pick up a Britt (if suspended), and don't draft a kicker. That would be legal, right?
