Leaving at 5:45 PM (just to be safe, tail end of rush hour) for a 8:55 flight. It's usually a 50 minute drive, but I'm gonna allow a whole hour more in case of accidents on I-95. Parking in the long term lot, so have to deal with a shuttle - hopefully a short wait, as it's gonna be like 25F, and I'm only taking a turtleneck and hoodie for travel. I'm a bundle of nerves, so much that can go wrong, especially by myself on I-95 at 1 AM. As luck would have it, the 3 days in Dec were the coldest of the season, and the 2 days I'll be there (Wed & Thurs, will be the coldest in several weeks. Still gonna give the snorkeling a go, but it'll be no picnic getting out of the water and it's 70F.
Wish I had someone with me to look at all these properties. I'm taking lots of pics and a short video with each one. The one I'm thus far most interested in, my agent is also the listing agent for. So IDK what kinda games I'd be in for. Also thinking that for the 2nd day, instead of being hellbent on snorkeling and sightseeing all day, it might be a good idea to go back and revisit the 2 or 3 units I narrow it down to. Any last minute advice is welcome. And discuss offers and timeframes.

Good luck Bev and be safe. I've only been to Daytona once. When my step brother was racing. We hardly left the track all week.

Thanks guys! I'll be home Friday at like 2 AM, and have blood work at 9:45, how crazy am I? Then I can relax and look at 200 more pics and 10 - 12 videos, unless I decide to make an offer while down there. Probably not a good idea. I haven't eaten in almost 2 days. Just praying for no mishaps on the way to the airport.

Whats the market like down there? Here where I live if you don't jump on the one you want, it will be gone in a day or two, unless its overpriced.

Well, the market's been strong the past few years, but heard it slowed down 2nd half of last year. This is typically the slow season, and a few more than usual are on the market in the devt I want. And a lot of prices reductions, probably as a result of a market correction and reality check for some. Some of these units were 1/2 price @ 5+ years ago. That was the time to buy, it was a buyer's market. Anyway, a lot of them are cheap flips, more common in condos probably, less to upgrade. We shall see.

Ah. It's a bit more complicated, but yes it's usually cheaper (in this case as well). First off, I don't need the space. A 2 bdrm, 2 bath is way more than 1 person needs. I don't wanna be strapped with everything a house entails, especially in Florida. Uh... roof? Landscaping? Then I'm in a 55+ community, which there are many types and quite different. Here I got activities out the wazoo, and huge clubhouse with full gym rooms (aerobic (bikes, treadmills, steppers, rowing) and weight room), not to mention classes, choices of pools, dozens of clubs to suit your interests and develop new ones. There's tennis, and redoing the pickleball courts (very interested in picking this up). So... the cost of buying the home is cheaper, as well as the insurance (your HOA (homeowner's association) fees) cover most, you just need your contents covered. It's easier to make friends. Guess I only answered part of your Q cuz not many condos offer all this. lol So in most people's cases, young and old, it comes down to cost, need for space, desire to bear the burden and cost of upkeep.

OMG!!! I didn't even tell you... I bought my next home. www.bexrealty.com/real-estate/Delray-Beach/Huntington-Lakes/MLS-RX-10494004-7301-Amberly-Ln-105-Delray-Beach-FloridaI've been looking at this one for over a month, and knew that it was the one. There are not enough pics in the listings, which is shocking, considering it included furniture, most not shown. And those that are are even better than they look (i.e. the bedroom set). That is ceramic tile on the patio. Additional pics may be forthcoming. Kind of a PITA since they are on my camera, have to upload to my PC, then my Allenhost account. Should be a busy week w/doctor's appts, and packing planning.

Well, the eagle (fan) has landed, and been settling in. Been shopping the past couple days for new bedding stuff, trash pails, and groceries. Loving it all so far. Was anticipating 1st encounter with a nosey neighbor, and it didn't take long. Unloading trunk with a garbage pail under one arm, mattress pad in the other, a guy comes over. Upon learning I moved here all by myself, he asks "No husband, I can't believe it. [seriously?!?!?!] Ever been married? [!!! WTF?!?]" So I say "I'm Beverly, what's your name?" To which he replies "I'm on the 4th floor, but I have a girlfriend". So I say "That's a weird name 'On the 4th floor'." After having to explain the convo, he says his name is Larry. For a 2nd time (before I told him I had to get going, get the stuff in the house and myself out of the heat), he suggests fixing me up, sending single guys my way. This time, I vehemently expressed he better not do that, and I will find him. Like jeez, just got here yesterday, wtf is wrong with people. He wasn't old either, maybe mid 60s. But all he could connect on was... connecting. lol

Welcome to Florida...it won’t get better lol. The sun has melted the people’s brains I've already probably used my horn here in 3 days as much as the 2 yrs 9 months I had the car in Philly. lol But it's weird how so many people's sense of propriety fades that much that young. Maybe it's the 55+ community atmosphere.

Now that you've made the move and settled in hope all is going well. It's getting better, but worse financially. I have painters here, hopefully they'll be done today. Also doing the (screened in) balcony. They've been doing a great job so far. So with this, and the new bedding, misc housewares, I've spent around $3k.

Screened balcony is good. I hear the mosquitoes are as big as a bumblebee in Florida.

Oh, here's my 'feel good' story for the day... happened a few days ago, I didn't believe Danny... 11 foot gator breaking and entering
