Hey everyone
I wanted to share this with you all.
Yesterday we had a visit to my school from a chap called David Stone MBE. This guy won Olympic Gold last Summer and in Beijing for for Team GB.
Anyway he came in to visit our school yesterday and brought along his Gold medals. He also gave a very emotional and inspirational talk about his journey to becoming Olympic Gold medallist. He told of how he quit after the 2000 Olympics in Sydney because he did not win his race and was so demoralised by his 'failure' to not win that he felt he could not continue with the sport he loved. Indeed he described cycling as the only love he will ever find cos when you are like him love doesn't come around too easily. He then missed the 2004 Olympics in Athens due to his failure 4 years prior. He was persuaded to try again after Athens, and so committed and devoted was he that he went on to win the gold medal in Beijing before winning Gold in London.
Y'see David Stone suffers from Cerebral Palsy and his speech is so badly affected it is very difficult to truly grasp what he is saying. I work in a very challenging school where behaviour is extremely poor at times BUT I have never, and I mean NEVER, seen a hall so silent and in awe of someone before. It was incredible to see children who are so nasty to peers sit and watch in awe of someone who has such a bad disability that I was fearful of a potentially embarrassing assembly.
Anyway here are a couple of links to David Stone.
I just wanted to share this extremely positive experience with you all. Maybe it will bring a little smile to your face like it did mine ;D
